Delegation of the German Bundestag Staff Learns about

German American Aviation Heritage Foundation

Connecting Germany and the United States by Passion for Flight

(April 21, 2016, Washington DC) The German American Aviation Heritage Foundation (GAAHF) was recently invited to a briefing on Capitol Hill with a staff delegation of the German Bundestag (national Parliament of the Federal Republic of Germany) that was visiting Washington, DC through the Congress-Bundestag/Bundesrat Staff Exchange Program (CBBSX). The program was established in 1983 and allows ten Bundestag and ten Congressional staff members each year to spend two weeks in each other’s country to observe and learn about the host government’s political institutions and to express their views on issues of mutual concern.

With great interest did the visitors from Germany learn about the U.S.-based non-profit organization founded by Lufthansa in 2014 with special highlight on the Super Star restoration project in Auburn where nearly 70 skilled workers are dedicated to bring the Lockheed L1649-A back to the skies alongside Lufthansa Technik. The GAAHF team also described the Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) and Arts initiatives planned for the next months. Natalie Hartman, Advisor for GAAHF, explained how the foundation will engage students at various stages of their education to learn more about aerospace through the sciences and arts and the critical role that education brings to the inspiration of aviation and aerospace future workforce.  The German delegation was impressed to know that this restoration is such a strong symbol of learning and education for U.S. and Germany in the future.
